Believe it or not, over 75% of Maui is wilderness and this island is perfect for satisfying the adventurer in you. Try sailing to Lanai or Molokini for incomparable snorkeling and scuba diving or go deep-sea fishing for a real salty, satisfying, seafaring challenge. Bike ride Mt. Haleakala — an exhilarating 38-mile downhill cruise from 10,000 feet, tone up your tennis game at one of the 40 public courts or learn to surf, wind-surf, hang glide, scuba dive or parasail.

Hike through lava deserts, tropical jungles, bamboo forests and towering mountain ranges or really go all out and pitch camp in Haleakala National Park or Waianapanapa State Park.

Hop aboard a helicopter and glide over hidden canyons, waterfalls and remote valleys. Ride horseback upcountry, along the pristine coastline of Hana or even into the incredible Haleakala crater itself. It's true to say that there are more delights and discoveries on this one island than can possibly be experienced in one holiday alone.

Maui Loves Families, Families Love Maui

Here's the closest thing to a sure bet you can find anywhere: the kids will never be bored on Maui. Maui has a lot more to offer than the traditional theme parks found in other destinations — and it's all real, natural, educational and fun. From "Water" (beaches, catamarans, kayaks, submarines, water slides), to "Wonder"

(Maui Ocean Centre, Hawaii Nature Centre, Maui Tropical Plantation, Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum, Iao Needle, Whale Museum), to a solid dose of unadulterated "Wow!" (Sugar Cane Train, Haleakala Crater, helicopter flight-seeing, Hawaii Experience Domed Theatre, the Maui Theatre Ulalena, horseback rides, downhill biking, fire-dancers and real cowboys), Maui has it all.

You can picnic by a waterfall or hike through misty eucalyptus forests, play miniature golf, tennis or beach volleyball and learn to snorkel, hula, boogieboard, surf and windsurf together.

Golf on Maui? It's Like Golf in Heaven

Magnificent courses, challenging holes, rich traditions, uncrowded courses and settings so spectacular they have to be seen to be believed - just a golfer's dream? No, it's golf here on the Magic Isle, which is all of this and more. Each of the resorts on Maui's famed "Golf Coast" features a bounty of legendary championship courses: two in Kaanapali, three in Kapalua, two in Makena and three in Wailea, plus six public courses on Maui. Two prestigious golf tournaments also make Maui their home: the Mercedes Championship at Kapalua and the Senior Skins Game at Wailea.

Shopping is Magic Too!

Home to hundreds of gifted painters and sculptors, Maui's art scene is world-renowned. Scores of intriguing galleries, plus charming museum shops and the Hui Noeau Visual Arts Centre, display contemporary, impressionist, abstract and traditional works, most of them inspired by the island itself. "Maui Hands" and "Na Mea" shops allow local artisans to offer their amazing crafts. Even those who work Maui's land display an artistic flair. Maui plants and flowers delight the senses.

The acclaimed Tedeschi Winery has had its champagne served at the White House. Meanwhile, Maui brand sugar and Maui onions ensure you can even take home the flavours of paradise.

Versace, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Tiffany, GAP, Ferragamo, DFS and Prada. Once upon a time the only way you'd see names like these on Maui was in a magazine advert, but no more now that the best of the best have opened boutiques here. But superlative merchandise is not limited to just the designer stores and malls. Our hotel shops and resort shopping villages also offer a wealth of accessories, jewellery, gifts, objects d'art, plus top-notch apparel for work, play and that special evening out. But remember, shopping on the Magic Isle is still, more than anything else, a Maui experience. And that means relaxed and unhurried, friendly and fun.
